"Saint Bernard Puppy's 1st Christmas," 6"x 6",

"Papillon's 1st Christmas," 6"x 6",
oil on stretched canvas,(available on ebay)
Here is a trio of delightful pups experiencing their very 1st Christmas snow! Each is painted on stretched canvas with the edges painted black, so they can be easily hung as is! No framing necessary! A perfect gift for the holidays, or a treat for yourself! :) (*These paintings will help us pay for our Jedha to be seen by a canine cancer specialist, he has an appointment set up for next week, please feel free to pass on this post to family, friends, & fellow dog lovers! Thank you!:)
For the next few weeks I will not be able to donate 10% of each painting to dog rescue, as we need to have some lumps checked out on our dog, Jedha, at a cancer specialist and need to save up the money to do this. If you are looking at having a portrait of your pet done, please consider scheduling it soon as it will help us pay for the examination, and if need be, any procedures they may need to do (fingers & paws crossed they will not). In the meantime, please keep our precious Jedha in your prayers that these lumps are not cancer. I just cannot imagine losing him. He is by far the most gentle, loving wonderful bundle of fur I have ever known. He helped me get thru my homesickness when I lived in Australia, and he is my little buddy here at home in Michigan.
"Asha," 9"x 12", oil on canvas,
10% will be donated to Heeling Hearts ACD Rescue
Just thought I'd give you a peek of what is currently on my easel...a HUGE Golden Retriever painting (18"x 24") and a beautiful Australian Cattle Dog. I also am working on a Sheltie and a pair of Miniature Schnauzers, and will be starting a Black Lab soon as well!I can feel the holiday rush already starting!Less than 8 weeks left!**Also, a VERY Special thank you to Rose over at a Santa Maker's Journey for the wonderful post she did about my pet portraits on her blog :) I painted her adorable Yorkie, Duchess, a few weeks back.
"Scottie with Vintage Scottie Radio & Baseball," 9"x 12",
oil on stretched canvas,
(available on ebay Sunday at 9pm EST)
10% will be donated to the Coalition to Unchain Dogs
Can you believe I thought of this painting over a year ago and only now have had the time to bring it to fruition? I will need to get a better photo once we get some sun here in Michigan, but overall I am really excited with how this piece turned out! I will be putting this up for auction Sunday night around 9pm EST. Hopefully the right collector or Scottie dog lover will appreciate all the time and detail that went into this piece!
*Also, I started yet another blog which will actually be more of a portfolio of sorts of my vintage dog paintings...it is called Vintage Dog Designs :)
Over at Flea Market Style they are having their 1st ever Blog Party! You can share your favorite flea market/thrift store/yard sale find by creating a post and linking up to their post, pretty easy and a bit of fun for everyone! My favorite find is one of my vintage suitcases...I love anything vintage or antique, and have incoporated several things into my paintings. I often wonder who once owned this suitcase and where did they travel with it? Perhaps a shopping excursion in New York, or visting relatives abroad...one can only imagine!
"Westie Atop a Vintage Suitcase," 9"x 12",
oil on stretched canvas,
(SOLD, THANK YOU!!)

(SOLD, THANK YOU!!)
(10% will be donated to Coalition to Unchain Dogs)
It's been awhile since I've done a vintage inspired dog portrait, so I decided to paint one this past week. I decided on a Westie as I find them so fun to paint, and with a name like 'Baron von Gizmo II' how could I resist?! This piece may already be spoken for, but if not, it will become available in the next couple of days. Keep in mind only 11 weeks remain until the holidays!;)

(*note: I replaced the photo, but there is still a glare coming from the right, I'll have to see if I can get a better photo in the next day or two...paintings always look better in real life!:)To read the whole story click here :)

Well, contrary to my belief I suppose I CAN paint horses! This is only the 2nd horse I've ever attempted to paint, but I have to say I am really thrilled with how it's coming together! Stay tuned for the grand finale!...The 'Duchess' is complete, and I am also really happy with the end result on this piece. I think the ornate chair really fits this little lady, don't you agree? :) (*Update, I finished the horse painting, and replaced the image above so you can see how it turned out...fingers crossed that the owner is happy too!:)
A large private commission just finished last night...3 pups kicking back and relaxing on a couch :) Feel free to contact me if you would like a portrait done of your pup or visit my website: studiolara.com
I'll need to get a better photo of this piece as soon as the sun makes an appearance today, but I think I am finished. I ended up removing what was a bannister from a porch on the right of the painting because it just didn't seem to add anything to the composition and may have, in fact, been a bit distracting. I wanted the focus to be on Abby & Ivy, so I also lightened up the background a bit. Overall I am really pleased with how this piece turned out! Both these girls are such beautiful dogs, it's been a pleasure having them spend some time with me in my studio :)
(*Update: I replaced the photo, although I still feel the piece looks much more vibrant in person :)

It has been a loonnnggg time since I have been taken so aback, and left literally speechless...& this is what happened to me just a few minutes ago. I received this AMAZING portrait of our Jedha Bugbear in the mail, a complete surprise!, from my super talented fellow artist friend, Akiko Watanabe! The detail she gets in her work is just breathtaking! Every little hair, every little dot on Bugbears nose is captured just perfectly! Amazing!! And she doesn't just paint pups, she is probably even more well known for her beautiful cats and life-like wildlife portraits. I'm more of a dog person (sorry) but she makes me want to like cats :) Thank you SO much Akiko! It is an absolute honor to know such an amazing, yet humble talent, and to call an even more beautiful person my friend! God bless!

Thank you to Become.com for featuring my blog on their site! I've been busy as a bee working on summer commissions and I listed some new prints in my store on etsy...be sure to take a peek! Hope you are enjoying your summer! :) If you are interested in having a pet portrait done or a custom piece done feel free to contact me and/or visit my site at Studio Lara.com.
I just wanted to share some awesome news! I recently was commissioned to do a surprise painting for none other than interior designer/stylist/author/editor Matthew Mead! Linda MacDonald over at Restyled Home asked me to do a painting of his pup, Oscar, for him and his wife as they were coming to her home for a photo shoot as they are launching a new magazine soon called Flea Market Style! You can read more about it here. Linda will be sending me a photo of Matthew and his wife with my painting very soon! Just so thrilled to hear that they are pleased with how it turned out! It was a true pleasure...thank you Linda! :o)
